Procedure in doing Digital story-telling

Hyiee, I am going to share something on a project that we did for one of our course which is a digital story-telling for young children, hope you enjoy it.... :)

We had made a simple video of a story entitled ‘Pika the Cat’. We had recorded the video by using a hand phone camera. Though the quality of the video was low, we managed to edit some part of the video using the software, windows movie maker.  Before we start recording, there were a few steps need to be carry out.  I would like to explain the procedure in doing this digital story-telling.

First of all, a discussion was conducted among the group members. The discussion focused on the story line and transfers the data into a story-board. Secondly, As soon as we had the story line, we can move to another step which is, prepared the props for the video. We draw the background of each scene and draw out the characters based on the story line.  A plain A4 size was used to draw and then we coloured the background together with the characters.

Next, we cut our drawing nicely. For the characters that played the most important role in the story, we stick the each drawing with a stick. It will be easier for us to control the characters by using sticks. After we had prepared all these things, we were ready to record the video. Before I forgot, we need to have a script for the story.

Next, we need to find a place which is quiet and peaceful. Thus, we will have a more quality video recorded. Then, paste the background drawing on a flat surface and get ready the phone’s camera. Now we can start to record the video. A member of the group need to control and adjust the phone’s camera and try to get a beautiful angle. Another person will be the narrator. The others will control the characters using the sticks. So, that’s it. Later we will record it scene by scene.

Lastly, we need to transfer the videos to the computer. By using the software, windows movie maker, we will combine all the videos accordingly to the scene of the story. To make the digital story more cheerful and happening, we can add in some sound effect into the video. Last but not the least, after finish editing, the video should be published and ready to be watched.

Here are some pictures that I capture from the video, and I will try to upload the video soon...

peace, no war.... ;) hope you all like this entry
